Dangers of Fluoride

Posted on 6/20/2022 by San Francisco Dental Arts
Dangers of FluorideYou can find fluoride in the soil, in the water, in your toothpaste, and even in some foods! Yet, there is still a controversy. Consumers who are concerned about the products they use and consume have long discussed the dangers of fluoride. Fluoride is directly related to improved oral health.

Your Oral Health and Fluoride

Fluoride helps prevent cavities by strengthening tooth enamel. It helps prevent tooth decay when consumed internally through fluoridated water, supplements, or foods containing it. It creates stronger, healthier teeth and prevents cavities when you brush your teeth with a toothpaste that contains fluoride, use mouthwashes, or have your dentist apply it to your teeth.

Fluoridated Water Benefits

Our bodies need water, which is why most doctors suggest six servings a day. Hydration and optimal body function depend on it. Do you know that fluoridated water reduces cavity risks?

Drinking water fluoride levels help to protect tooth enamel. In the US, 75% of water is fluoridated. Despite water being fluoridated for over 60 years, no peer-reviewed studies have shown that fluoridating our water endangers our health. Studies show that people without clean and safe drinking water suffer from tooth decay, which can lead to tooth loss and gum disease. There's no doubt water fluoridation is one of the most important health practices of the 20th Century.

The benefits of fluoride should put worries about fluoride dangers to rest. Many natural toothpaste companies eliminate fluoride from their products out of concern over fluoride dangers. Fluoride is not actually a problem, but these companies only do not use it as an ingredient due to consumer concerns about its toxicity. Toothpaste, drinking water, and other dental goods containing fluoride are beneficial, not harmful.
