Are Electric Toothbrushes Better Than Traditional Toothbrushes?

No matter where you go, you have seen electric toothbrushes advertised on social media or on streaming services. Electric toothbrushes have been around for nearly 100 years, but they have only been widely adopted in the last 30 years because the early electric toothbrushes were bulky and difficult to charge. Now, because electric toothbrushes are lighter, thinner, and easy to charge, a lot of people are wondering if they are better than traditional toothbrushes. Here are the pros and cons of electric toothbrushes.
The Pros of Electric Toothbrushes
There are a lot of positives about electric toothbrushes. First, electric toothbrushes seem to clean your teeth more deeply because they have oscillating - or rotating - bristles. These bristles remove plaque more effectively than a traditional toothbrush, which helps with both tooth decay and gingivitis. Electric toothbrushes also have different settings, so you can use a setting for whiter teeth, a deeper tooth cleaning, a setting for cleaning your sensitive teeth, and a setting for brushing your tongue. Electric toothbrushes are easy to use as well.
Other positives about electric toothbrushes include a timer that automatically shuts off after two minutes and checks to make sure you have rotated your cleaning through all of your teeth. You can buy electric toothbrushes with a pressure check to make sure you are not brushing too hard.
The Negatives About Electric Toothbrushes
While toothbrushes are amazing for many teenagers and adults, the American Dental Association recommends both electric toothbrushes and manual toothbrushes because both can keep teeth clean effectively. Manual toothbrushes are better for very young children because they need a different type of toothbrush with very soft bristles and a thicker handle. Also, children may be able to handle a manual toothbrush better. Manual toothbrushes are easier to pack for travel as well because you do not have to pack a charger to use them. If you love camping or you love to pack light, a manual toothbrush makes sense.
