Can You Fix an Overbite with Invisalign?

Posted on 9/5/2022 by San Francisco Dental Arts
Can You Fix an Overbite with Invisalign?Overbite can affect not only the appearance of the smile but also oral health. Having a slight overbite is normal, but in more severe cases, it is related to abnormalities such as tooth fractures, ulcers, jaw joint problems, and so on. Correcting overbite is among the most common reasons for wearing Invisalign.

How is an overbite corrected with Invisalign?

Invisalign is an invisible orthodontic accessory that uses custom-made, clear aligners that fit over the teeth and gradually align them. The main reason that Invisalign is used is that they are transparent, taking the teeth' color, and are made with bulky metallic assemblies; therefore, they comfort the patient.

To make overbites corrections, Invisalign uses orthodontic brackets and rubber bands that enable the aligners to grip the teeth. In addition, the frames are attached to the aligner and then to the teeth, thus allowing the patient to move the bite into a correct occlusion.

These attachments work together to push the upper teeth back and the lower teeth forward. However, if the Invisalign feel tighter and causes discomfort or even pain, the dentist can use dental devices such as chewies to enable them to sit better on the teeth.

Benefits of using Invisalign to correct an overbite

It straightens the teeth and aligns the jaws in the same process. Also, it's removable hence facilitating feeding and dental hygiene. In addition, there are no food or dietary restrictions and minor irritations that the patient can manage with recommended medication.

In general, Invisalign is a perfect solution to correct overbites. However, evaluation by a professional dentist is necessary to determine if a patient is fit for this correction. Additionally, if the malocclusion issue is too complex for the Invisalign, jaw surgery can be performed to make a better collection.
